We deliver funded services and programs across the Southern Melbourne Area including the local government areas of Greater Dandenong, Frankston, Casey and Cardinia.


About the role

wayss are looking for an experienced Team Leader to lead the Emergency Youth Accommodation team. The Team Leader will be responsible for the effective day to day operation of the Emergency Youth Accommodation program. The role also initiates and builds collaborative links within wayss and with the broader community sector that enhance the delivery of services. This role will be required to participate in the on-call roster for the Emergency Youth Accommodation program.

Duties include:

  • Ensuring all programs are delivered within the scope of funding guidelines and meet the needs of young people accessing them.
  • Ensuing the effective, ongoing implementation of the Advantaged Thinking approach.
  • Working collaboratively with partnership agencies and other stakeholders in order to achieve better outcomes for young people and to build the profile of wayss.
  • Managing the day-to-day operation of EYA facility, including staffing, housekeeping and maintenance functions.
  • Coordinating the client intake process and effectively prioritising referrals for young people accessing emergency accommodation services.
  • Monitoring all expenditure in accordance with program budgets.
  • Monitoring and assessing program performance to identify service gaps and service improvement opportunities that are then implemented.
  • Providing day to day, operational support and direction for team members, to assist them to fulfil the responsibilities of their role and to ensure services are provided in a client focused manner.
  • Providing team members with regular scheduled supervision.
  • Facilitating referral and support pathways for young people through liaison with external services.
  • Other reasonable duties as requested.

About you

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Social or Behavioural Science, Psychology, Community Services or other relevant discipline at degree level or above.
  • Relevant experience working in the community services sector with young people, with a sound knowledge of the housing and support needs appropriate to them.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability leading a team and providing supervision.
  • Knowledge of relevant theories including adolescent development, strengths based approaches and reflective practice.
  • Sound knowledge of homelessness, with an understanding and commitment to the social and political context of homelessness.
  • Well developed interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to improving service delivery and practice.

This role requires a current Driver’s Licence and valid ‘Employment’ category - Working with Children Check clearance.  The candidate will need to have successfully completed wayss pre-employment screening, a police check and identity check.
